IBM GBS Off-campus Interview Experience - 11th & 12th September, Kolkata

Hello guys,

I'm from SKFGI, Mankundu and I had recently attended IBM GBS offcampus for M.Tech, MCA, B.Tech (2015/2016 batch) held at Techno India, Salt Lake campus on 11th and 12th of September, 2016.

On 11th Sept, we had 2 rounds:-

1st round:- Aptitude test consisted of

a) Number Series (18 questions) - Practise as many series questions as you can from previous year papers. Try to learn the logic used to solve each series.

Few questions which I remember:

i) 5, 16, 22, 68, 28, 87, 34, 106, 11, ?

ii) 1, 3, 1, 2.5, 5, 1, 4, 5, 4, 8, 7, ?

iii) 1, 1, 3, 2, 1, 5, 3, 4, 10, 4, 2, ?

iv) 5, 5, 7, 7, 9, 11, 11, 13, 13, 17, 15, 19, 17, ?

v) 0.03, 0.0018, 0.00108, 0.00648, 0.3888, ?

b) Quantitative Aptitude (18 questions): Practise from R.S. Aggarwal & www.IndiaBix.com. That would be enough to crack this section.

Few questions which I remember:

i) In a certain company, 20% of the men and 40% of the women attended the annual company picnic. If 35% of all the employees are man, what  percent of all the employees went to the picnic?

ii) A letter has to be printed 100 lines with 80 character, if 40 character per line printed then how many lines it take?

iii) A company rented a machine for Rs.700/- a month. Five years later the treasurer calculated that if the company had purchased the machine and paid Rs.100/- monthly maintenance charge, the company would have saved Rs.2000/-. What was the purchase price of the machine?

iv) A person starts at 2.05PM with 40km/hr and reaches to 8.35 pm. then how much distance he travelled?

v) In a software company 4/10 of people know C++, 2/4 of them know java, 2/8 of them know neither, find the total possibility to know C++?

Remember, you have to solve 36 questions of Round 1 in 2min 15secs each. So time management is a v.imp factor to clear this round. There is no -ve marking so try to attempt all.

b) 2nd round was Business English Communication (22 questions in 20mins): Check out business letter format. This round is very easy and you can easily crack it if you're good in English. If you're not, Prepare questions repeat from previous year papers.

Almost 1000+ students attended this drive so they had combined the scores of 1st two rounds and declared the overall results at around 5pm. 140 cleared the written test and luckily I was one among them! :).

On 12th Sept, we had our interview. There were 8 panels. I had my interview for 45mins. :D

Questions asked:
a) Explain your final year project?
b) Basic questions on C, JAVA, HTML5.
c) Why should we hire you?
d) What do you know about IBM?
e) Are you ready for relocation?

Along with this, some situation based HR questions were also asked. Answer every question confidently with a smile. Just give quick response to each question and be very frank. Almost 60 cleared the interview. Finally I'm an IBM'er now and I got my joining dates within 1 month.

Just a few months back, I was also one among you guys. Hope my interview experience helps! All the best & see u soon at IBM someday! :)

IBM GTS INDIA Interview Experience - Malla Reddy College of Engineering and Technology(MRCET), 2-SEPTEMBER-16

Hi,

The following is my Entire campus placement experience with IBM GTS.

Initially we got a mail to register ourselves in the IBM portal. The academics cutoff was 65 percent throughout 10th, 12th and B-Tech(III-II) The written test was scheduled on 1-sept-16. It has 3 rounds.

1) Quantitative aptitude.
2) Psychometric test.
3) Tech + HR.

Quantitative aptitude has 30 quants mostly from time and work, time and distance, profit and loss, ages, percentages, ratios, and other simple quants. The level of toughness was moderate to hard and trust me solving IndiaBix papers was more than enough. There was no negative marking but there was a restriction on time i.e., each question will be given only 2.5 minutes hence it is necessary to manage time. It is not possible to go back to previous question once it is skipped. There was no sectional cutoff too.

Once the first round is done, you will be directed to the second round called WORK STYLE INVENTORY (Psychometric test). It has 100 questions with no time limit. The question are based on our day to day life scenarios and how we tackle them. The questions are simple but very tricky and they seem to repeat more than once. If you put two different answers for the same question, you are likely to be ruled out. The drive was for Malla Reddy group and 90 members attend from our college (MRIET) and only 13 made it through.

The next round was tech+ hr. This round was easy and the questions were very simple like why IBM and the routine Questions. The questions were directly from the Resume mostly from Networking. The interviewer was polite and friendly. She was willing to listen to me and at the end she asked me if I had any doubts. I asked what was the next round instead of asking her to rate my interview. She answered me. Thus my interview ended. As per their instructions, we received the confirmation mail within 48 hours. Out of the 90 students, 7 were selected from my college and I was one amongst them.

I wish all the best to all of you and I would suggest that cracking the aptitude round plays a crucial role in any interview hence focus on Aptitude and there is nothing that is impossible.

Thank you!

32) 5 5 7 7 9 11 11 13 13 17 15 19 17 ?

Believe me I got most of the similar question in exam, In general quant question are from - speed time, work time parentage and other general section.

If you scored in series section well then do not worry about this section because most of the guys not able to score well in this section. You have a timer for each question i,e you have solved each particular question in time limit this this make exam difficult. From around 1000 student 550 are selected for second round.

Round 2:

In this round question asked from business mail writing and use of punctuation.
You have to prepare format of mail writing, use of ; : "" , mainly.
Around 20 question there.

130 are selected from 550 for interview.

Round 3: (Technical & HR)

Question were:

1. Tell me about yourself?

2. Describe about your projects and Significance of your final year project?

3. What is JSP and Servelet?

4. What is Database?

5. What is Normalization?

6. Why you want to join IBM?

9. Quality of successful leader.

10. What you expect from company?

11. You are ready to work in shift?

12. You are ready to relocate?

13. Ask any question if you have?

That is it, 90 are finally selected. I got my first job after rejection from TCS and INFOSYS. One more thing is that during interview earthquake is also happened during my interview we are run away from interview room. Do not loose your hope. Thanks.

IBM Interview Experience - GREATER NOIDA, October 18, 2015

Hello friends, this is my worst interview experience of my life. So don't be panic yet I have learnt something from this interview, and I hope you should follow my this experience, my name is Armaan, B.Tech final year, I am from Galgotia College.

IBM Company organised placement, and it has two criteria. Semester aggregate marks 65%, and there is no current backlog and I was fully eligible for this job and in my college total 220 candidate are eligible for this job.

Company organised two test: Aptitude (18 question) - per question 2.15 min,

W.S.R test (physicometric test) and then technical+HR.

In aptitude question were tricky and simple. It is just a basic maths (using of addition, sub, mul, and division), total 150 student were cleared this exam and as I was one of then. Then now the time of w.s.r test in which total (100 question) was given and there is no time limit. It is just a personality test and 125 student had cracked this exam. Now the time of interview IBM's counselor after gave me a coupon code which is used in overall placement process. Next day was interview and they called me at 8.00 AM. I went proper time where all the candidate waiting for some time, after waiting 7 hours, they called my name for interview process. I was quietly exhaust and nervous and I went to interviewer cabin.

ME: May I come in sir?

HR: Yes Armaan, come in.
ME: Thank you sir.

HR: Well Armaan, what is your stream?
ME: Sir electronics and communication.

HR: Why do you want to choose an IT field?
ME: Sir, first of all I really interested in this field as I done some courses like C, Java, Android app development, HTML coding, Web designing.

HR: What do you learn from android app development?
ME: Sir I learnt how to create an apps in android.

HR: How?
ME: (guys I wanna tell you this is very long procedure for creating a new app), but I started to tell him, when I was telling then his expression is quietly different. It seems that he was taking no more interest on me. And he cut my answer and ask another question.

HR: Tell me something about yourself?
ME: Told.

HR: He asked me some question on my project.
ME: Told.

Guys on the answering time always laugh and make the environment on that time such that you are fully confident.

HR: Well Armaan, if I will hire you, then what will you do new things for IBM?
ME: Told.

HR: Armaan, if you doing a project, and you are a leader, and there are my member in your group on which two member are not performing the task, then what you will do on that time?
ME: Told.

As I am confident on that time but I am nervous as my communication skill is not good. So I was answering not proper well.

HR: Do you have any query?
ME: Told.

Then he said to me, now you may go while exiting from HR cabin. I understood that I will not select, as 70 candidate are selected and my name is not in the list.

But after a sudden moment I will think that IBM can never hire a lot of people like this and afterwards I confirmed that it is just a IBM BPO job. So guys before sitting in any company be confirmed regarding job profile.

Me: Told. (Confidently explained why I am the team lead).

HR: How do you change silent members?

Me: Told.

HR: Okay. On what basis do you select the best code?

Me: Time and space complexity and explained with an example.

(Also a few technical question were asked which are considerably easy to handle with).

HR: Do you have any question to ask me?

Me: No sir. (Recommended to ask. If no, need not worry this doesn't have any impact on your interview).

HR: Nice Tejaswi, have a nice day.

Me: Thank you very much sir.

Friends, I would only suggest one point. Whatever you do in your interview is completely in your hands. Be confident, have smile and do proper acknowledgement when the HR poses questions.

ALL THE VERY BEST.

IBM Placement Pattern - Goa, September 28 & 29, 2015

Hey, let me walk you all through my interview experience with IBM. The first day of the 2-day IBM placement session consisted of the company presentation which lasted about an hour and a half after which were scheduled the online tests.

First module of the online test consisted of 18 questions on number series and 18 questions on quantitative aptitude. Each individual question had a time limit of 2 mins, 15 seconds with the timer displayed on the screen. For number series, practice as many questions as possible from various sites online including IndiaBix. For quantitative aptitude, give more priority to questions on certain topics. What I suggest according to the questions that I encountered, are the following topics:

1) Time, Speed and Distance.
2) Time and Work.
3) Ratio and Proportion.
4) Averages.
5) Profit and Loss.
6) Probability.
7) Percentages.

The students who cleared this test were qualified for the second module of the online tests which was an online communication test by Kenexa. Out of 200, around 96 students cleared the first test and I was one of them.

The second test was a basic test on English language and grammar which consisted of 22 questions in 20 minutes time frame. Stay well-versed with business letter formats, business e-mail formats, active and passive voice, pronouns, use of commas, conjunctions, direct and indirect speech etc. For this test, I suggest going through various practice questions online. Out of 96 students, 45 were selected and I was one of them.

The second day consisted of the interview round. Technical as well as HR questions were asked. Prepare a few basic questions very well such as "tell me about yourself", "why IBM", "Why do you want to work in IT domain (if you are from an ECE background)". Also brush up your technical knowledge, prepare for questions on your project and stay well-versed with the latest innovations by IBM. If you have cleared the online tests then you are 90% an IBM'er. Just make sure you do not mess up the interview and stay confident. All the best!!

IBM Interview Experience - 05/04/2015 L J Group of Colleges, Ahmedabad

Hi everyone !

I am E&C branch (2013 batch) and I would to walk you through my experience of IBM off campus on 5th Apr.

The procedure started when my college asked for our Resume details and forwarded it to IBM.

IBM has this procedure of sending emails to eligible candidates with a Unique registration no to each candidate along with the date and venue of the off campus.

In our case it was, Matriculation > 70%, Intermediate (10+2) or Diploma > 70%, Graduation (BE/B.Tech) > 7 CPGA or equivalent percentage.

Depending on the no.of total requests received by IBM, they divide you in batches so that all candidates can managed well.

My reporting time was in evening 1:30 pm. A batch had already completed it first round by then who had a reporting time of 10:30 am, I think.

Guys this is not necessary but it would be good if you bring a printout of your confirmation mail, they don't mind if you have a soft copy.

Unique reg no is very important.

Overall procedure is divided into 3 rounds:
1st Round:

This is Aptitude and Logical series round.

They will give you a link (as far as I remember www.identifythebest.com, I don't remember complete link).

That's a product designed by IBM for itself and others.

U will get 18 questions from series completion with 5-6 no displayed and u have to match the option that ends the series (Piece of cake).

Each question is allotted time of 2 min 15 secs and believe me it goes away like Breeze.

My advice wld be don't look at timer instead focus on the question. It won't be much hard.

The next set of 18 questions won't come immediately so wait for a minute, Relax.. and get ready..!

The quants were a bit tricky same time pattern, but rigorous practice helps here a lot..!

For section 1 just refer all questions of IndiaBix and thats it.

Then we were accumulated in a hall, where they started announcing names of rejected candidates. I think ratio 50% of total candidates.

I cleared.

2nd Round:

This round is dedicated to your command over English (especially Business emails and Letter writing, use of verbs pronouns prepositions etc)

This wholly depends on candidates level of understanding the basics of English. I don't think this section needs much prep.

They ask 22 ques in 20 mins.

Timer is not displayed. Use of Computer's watch is advised.

Here again ratio is 50% of total candidates who cleared round 1.

Out of total candidates I think 300-340 maybe. Around 65 got selected.

I cleared.

They ran out of time.

So the final round (HR+Tech) round wld be held at IBM Pune. They said it would be late after around 3-4 weeks. This is the thing I found a bit weird. But thats it.

All in the experience is good. Chances of getting selected after 2 rounds is around 75-80%.

Lets hope for best.

Thank you.

IBM(Associate System Engnieer) Interview Pattern- GURGAON, MARCH 17, 2015

H friends!

I my from Electrical branch & I would like to share my off campus interview  experience held in 17th of March.

The difficulty level decreases as every level passes by.

The interview process consists of three phases.

1) APTITUDE ASSESSMENT TEST.

It consists of number series in first half and aptitude questions in second half, each question will have a timer of 2:15 minute.

For number series kindly refer to series given by various  interviews, you will get most of them in your test. I myself preferred that.

For aptitude go through basic formulas on profit and loss, SI & CI, and permutation, combination. For this also refer to experiences by interviewees, the questions  are general requiring simple mathematics. I went through basic formulas and rest left to my fate.

Note - You are allowed to use only system calculators for calculation.

Kindly, do not indulge yourself in reading whole question as it will consume more than half of your time, act as soon as it is displayed.

Approx 170 students appeared out of which approx 70 students were selected. This test counts for maximum elimination.

Felt relieved for few moments as I was the one who got selected !

2) ENGLISH ASSESSMENT TEST.

It started an hour after the result was announced.

The whole test is of 20 minutes with no timer in each question .

For this kindly go through American and British Business Letter format thoroughly.

And various questions posted by interviewees...you will get 90%  of them either directly or twisted.
I myself followed same and got 95% of questions in one or other form.

After this round only 35 students were left and i was one of them..!
My both written took place on 7th march and mail from IBM for interview on 14th March.

IF YOU CLEARED BOTH THESE ROUNDS YOU ARE 90% IN.

3) FACE TO FACE INTERVIEW.

Around 100 students were called from various drives held in approx four or five cities.
My interview took place quite early at around 9:40 am, in fact I was first one in my panel.

Interviewer : Called my name and asked me to come in.
Me : Entered and wished him morning.

Interviewer : I have gone through your resume kindly tell me about your project.
Me : Told , said I can explain with help of block diagram he said no need.

My interviewer was not at all friendly and looked at me for only twice or thrice rest I don't know what the hell he was looking at my one page resume! I think he was checking my communication skills and english.

Always maintain a proper eye contact and your body posture should be correct. They notice that a lot.

Interviewer : What were the challenges you came across in implementing this project.
Me : Told.

Interviewer : Asked questions regarding my project.
Me: Told......in few of my ans he doesn't seemed much satisfied.

Interviewer : Any contradiction in view of other members while implementing project and how you overcame that.
Me: Told.

Interviewer : Asked about any fav subject in engineering and why? he cross questioned on same topic.
Me : Told.

Interviewer: Thank you Priya, you may go.

My interview lasted for 20 minutes...
They were basically checking communication skills and approach of individual in any situations.

Many of my friends were asked to speak anything about pi, why ibm, introduce yourself and so forth basic HR questions.

Finally I was selected! Thank god ma pa and everyone who wished for me!

GOOD LOCK!

IBM(Associate Systems Engineer) Interview Experience - Pune, Dec 13, 2014.

Divyesh (BE E&TC).
Hello everyone,

Preparing for IBM interview??

Recently I got the golden opportunity to be one of the privileged candidates who were shortlisted for IBM interview (3rd round after apti and business writing test) for Associate Systems Engineer post.

I would say that each round gets easier as you crack them, apti being the toughest to crack (with maximum eliminations) while face-to-face interview round being relatively easy to crack( with min eliminations).

The HRs and  the recruiting team is very polite and friendly. They make u feel home.Just brush up ur basics and thats all needed. They check your verbal skills, confidence, your inclination towards your job and company, subject knowledge..etc.,

Interview went something like this:

1. How are you today?
- I'm fine Sir, How are you.? (created a kind of bonding between me n the interviewer which is needed to keep the session going smoothly).

2. Tell me about yourself?
- (Here I mentioned my educational background, family in brief, current technology I learnt and my interest, hobbies, strengths..etc. Don't disclose your weaknesses here).

3. About your weakness?
- I think I am a bit emotional sometimes.

Sir went through my resume for around a couple of minutes..

4. What was the objective of your project.?
- Project was Face Recognition Application using PCA. I preferred to describe the future scopes of the project. ...Described everything else fluently and up to the mark.

5. You have done JAVA but what if we place in some other technology?
- Sir, I believe everything is a part of learning. A fresher finds many opportunities to learn by being in such challenging and dynamic environment. I will make myself capable of being in that technology by learning it. I think I will be comfortable

6...
etc..

Last ques: Any questions for me?
-Sir I want to know about IBM's work culture..
He explained everything so nicely and properly.

At last shook hands with him and greeted Good Day.

The point is just be yourself, don't try to pretend which you are not, Be confident. Have your subject knowledge and project knowledge up to the mark. That's it.

Finally got selected.

All d best!!! :)

IBM Campus Recruitment-SGGS - Nanded, November 09, 2014

Hey Guys.

IBM visited my Institute on 9th November, 2014.

It was informed to us that IBM will be coming to our campus just three days ago the date, So I started with all my preparations.

Basically the recruitment procedure is divide into 3 parts:

1) Online aptitude test.
2) English assessment (I had In-Person).
3) Technical Interview.

As I had read in many reviews that 50% of the aptitude is on number series I started practicing. I almost did around 400 examples from where ever I could gather. And remaining 50% is general aptitude. And since I was good at aptitude. I didn't give much attention to that part.

On the final day I got to hear a new type of aptitude. "ADAPTIVE TEST" that is. if you answer a question correct the next question will be tougher than the current one, and if you answer wrong then the next question will be easier than the current one. In short we had to decide our difficulty levels on our own. I was really tensed when I came to know about this because I was not prepared for such a thing.

The test started at 11 am. 20 questions : each question had a time limit of 2 mins 15 secs.

- Once gone you cannot come back to that question.

- System in built Calculator was allowed.

- First question was of time and work. And in the following questions I got questions from percentage and profit and loss. NO question from number series. And to me all questions had been tough. That is the difficulty level was good. Values were mostly of 4 to 5 digits. So speed was must..!!!

I was not sure about clearing the test. But the result was in my favor and I was through it.

Next was English assessment. This round was the easiest of all. Interviewer was a lady HR. She was very sweet. :) She asked me to introduce myself and I was just waiting for this question. I spoke continuously for 5 min. (make this question your strongest point, because first impression matters a lot). Keep in mind for IBM  talk English, walk English, think in English because English is NOT a funny language for them, if you want to get selected.
After this round I was immediately called for Technical interview within 15mins.

For Technical Interview there was a panel of 4. Interview starts with introduction. (I was so happy to hear that question again.!!). They asked me about my projects, done.!!

After that they asked the common MR questions. Remember : Flaunt your English and tell as many Extra curricular activities as much you can. They give extra marks for it.

And that's it..!!!

Results were out by 9pm. And I was selected.!

Hope this will help you.

All the very best.

And if rejected don't get disheartened. You will make it some other day just be confident and have faith in yourself!!
